What Are Non-Surgical Fillers?

Non-surgical fillers, also known as dermal fillers, are injectable treatments designed to add volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. Made from hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring substance in the skin), these fillers are safe, effective, and provide immediate results.

What Can Non-Surgical Fillers Treat?

Non-surgical fillers are incredibly versatile and can address a variety of concerns, including:

  1. Restoring Lost Volume: As we age, our skin loses collagen and elasticity, leading to hollow cheeks, sunken temples, and thinning lips. Fillers can restore volume to these areas, creating a more youthful appearance.
  2. Smoothing Wrinkles and Lines: Fillers can soften the appearance of nasolabial folds (smile lines), marionette lines, and forehead wrinkles.
  3. Enhancing Facial Features: Whether you want fuller lips, a more defined jawline, or a balanced chin, fillers can help you achieve your desired look.
  4. Improving Skin Texture: Some fillers stimulate collagen production, improving skin elasticity and texture over time.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    What are non-surgical fillers?

Non-surgical fillers, also known as dermal fillers or soft tissue fillers, are injectable substances used to add volume, smooth wrinkles, and rejuvenate the appearance of the face. They are commonly composed of hyaluronic acid, calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid, or polymethylmethacrylate beads suspended in a gel-like solution.

    Why are non-surgical fillers used?

    Non-surgical fillers are used to:

    • Fill in wrinkles, fine lines, and deep creases.
    • Restore lost volume to areas of the face affected by aging or weight loss.
    • Enhance facial contours, such as cheekbones or lips.
    • Improve the appearance of scars or depressions in the skin.
    How are non-surgical fillers administered?

Non-surgical fillers are administered via injections directly into the targeted areas of the face. Before the procedure, the skin may be cleansed and a topical numbing cream or local anesthesia may be applied to minimize discomfort. The filler is then injected using a fine needle or cannula to achieve the desired aesthetic enhancement.

What types of non-surgical fillers are available?

There are several types of non-surgical fillers available, including:

Hyaluronic acid fillers: These fillers are made of a naturally occurring substance found in the skin and help add volume and hydration to the treated area.

Calcium hydroxylapatite fillers: These fillers stimulate collagen production and provide longer-lasting results compared to hyaluronic acid fillers.

Poly-L-lactic acid fillers: These fillers stimulate collagen production over time and are often used to address deeper wrinkles and volume loss.

Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) fillers: These permanent fillers contain tiny beads that provide structural support and volume to the skin.

Is anesthesia used during non-surgical filler injections?

Topical numbing cream or local anesthesia may be used to minimize discomfort during non-surgical filler injections. Some fillers also contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic, to help reduce pain during the procedure.

What is the recovery process like after non-surgical filler injections?

The recovery process after non-surgical filler injections is typically minimal. Patients may experience mild swelling, bruising, or redness at the injection sites, which usually resolves within a few days. Ice packs and over-the-counter pain relievers may be used to alleviate discomfort.

How long do the results of non-surgical fillers last?

The duration of results from non-surgical fillers varies depending on the type of filler used, the treated area, and individual factors such as metabolism and lifestyle habits. Generally, hyaluronic acid fillers last 6-12 months, while calcium hydroxylapatite and poly-L-lactic acid fillers may last 12-24 months or longer.

Are there any risks or complications associated with non-surgical fillers?

While non-surgical fillers are generally safe when administered by a trained and experienced provider, they may carry certain risks and potential complications, including:

    • Allergic reactions
    • Infection at the injection site
    • Bleeding or bruising
    • Nodule formation
    • Migration or asymmetry of the filler
    • Tissue necrosis (rare but serious complication)
    • Vascular occlusion (blockage of blood vessels)
How can I schedule a consultation for non-surgical fillers?

If you’re considering non-surgical fillers, we recommend scheduling a consultation with a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon specialising in aesthetic procedures. During the consultation, the provider will evaluate your concerns, discuss your goals, and recommend the most suitable treatment options for you.

    What happens after Filler treatment?

The fillers we use are non-toxic, non-allergenic products, which do not contain any animal ingredients. They have all been used safely on thousands of patients since the establishment of LINIA. Side effects are minimal, though you should expect a little discomfort whilst being injected, and you may experience some short-term bruising and swelling after the treatment. If you wear make-up you should avoid doing on the day of the treatment as well as the day after to help the healing process.

How Does the Non-Surgical Dermal Filler Procedure Work?

A mild anaesthetic cream is applied to the area that is to be treated and left on for around 30-40 minutes. Then the filler is injected using a very fine needle into the skin according to the desired area of the face.

For lips, a dental block can be used if you prefer. Results are visible immediately. The filler dissolves naturally over a period of months.

    Are your consultations free?

All our consultations are free with no obligation. You will be provided with expert advice and relevant information to achieve the results you desire. After seeking advice with our consultant, you can have the treatment on the day of your appointment.

Will my consultation be with a surgeon?

All consultations take place with a specialist surgeon at LINIA. We believe that only a surgeon with years of experience can help and advise you on the best procedure to achieve the results you would desire.

During your initial consultation, we will ask you about the results you are looking for and explain the procedure so that you understand every stage of the process. The most important conclusion after your consultation is that you feel completely at ease in our care and that you are fully aware of the procedure and the resulting enhancement.
