The reason this happens in the first place is due to a reduction in your body’s natural production of elastin and collagen.

Two proteins that play a hugely important role ensuring your skin is supple and smooth.

It is also because the face is the part of your body exposed to external elements such as the sun and pollution.

Therefore, in time, your skin starts to lack the elasticity it once had and wrinkles and other fine lines start to appear.

Add to that the sagging around the neck, chin and jaw that often occurs making you look older than you actually are.

If this is something you are currently experiencing or have done for a long time now, Linia’s highly skilled and professional team of cosmetic surgeons can help with either our neck lift surgery, temple lift surgery or a combination of both.

The Neck Lift Procedure

The operation is performed under local anaesthesia and sedation and most patients may go home on the day of the surgery.

An incision is made behind the ear. The skin is gently lifted off the neck and mobilized. The neck muscles are tightened and neck skin is re-draped over these.

Platyma Corsetplasty is a special technique that we use to create a muscle band across the neck.

This produces a sculpted tight neck and well defined jaw line. We use self dissolving sutures that will not need to be removed.

After the operation is finished you may sit up and see the result of your neck lift in the mirror, right there and then.

An antibiotic cream is then applied followed by a padded bandage. The bandage stays for 2-3 days and most patients can resume normal activities after that.

Some bruising may follow but that can be easily covered with the hair down. The scars are hidden behind the ear and the hair in the neck.

The Temple Lift Procedure

The procedure known as a temple lift or temporal brow lift has been designed to give the tail ends of your eyebrows a lift, rather than the full brows.

Surgical video cameras or endoscopes are often used for this procedure, meaning only small incisions are used and the risks of scarring are greatly reduced.

It can help to give you a fresh and rejuvenated look.

This procedure is normally performed as an outpatient surgery with a light anaesthetic being used in most situations.

A small incision is placed around the hairline, directly above your ear. Your surgeon will then tighten the tissue underneath.

As well as elevating the tail of the brow, this can also reduce or even eliminate crow’s feet.

Any excess skin around the site of the incision and where the surgeon has been working is removed before you are sutured.

Some common questions we get asked about neck lift

What will the neck lift procedure involve?

We perform a neck lift under general anaesthesia as a day case procedure. During the operation, your surgeon will correct the signs of ageing on the neck, which varies from patient to patient. A neck lift is highly customisable, and so we will adjust the technical approach depending on your needs.

Typically, this involves working with the platysma muscle, and removing excess skin, fat and tissue to smooth and refine the neck. We may also combine this procedure with submental liposuction (under the chin) and a facelift, for an enhanced facial rejuvenation outcome.

The surgeon will make a minimal and discreet incision behind the ear. They will remove excess fat and may tighten the platysma muscles with sutures which prevents the bands from returning. In rare cases the surgeon may decide to include a small incision under the chin, however Dr. Alexandrides’ will usually perform the operation without the need for such an incision. Following this, your surgeon will address and excise any excess skin and close the incision with sutures.

Who is the neck lift procedure suitable for?

A neck lift is suitable for anyone who is seeing signs of ageing or build-up of fatty tissue under the chin. We can address loose and sagging skin, platysma bands (the vertical bands that run down the neck and become more visible age), and excess fat around this area.

When Can Results of Neck Lift Be Seen?

The results will be immediately visible, but swelling will ensue shortly afterwards. You should have an indication of the final results once the swelling subsides.

How long is recovery of neck lift?

After surgery, we will require you to wear a compression garment for the first 24 hours. We may also insert drains to remove any excess fluid which we’ll also remove after 24 hours.

You may feel a little uncomfortable for the first 48 hours, and the surgeon may recommend pain killers to alleviate this. Numbness, tightness and changes in sensation are also a possibility.

We advise you to avoid exercise or any strenuous activities for the first week. You should expect swelling and bruising during this time. Your surgeon will remove the stitches at your post-op after around one week.

How Long Does The Neck Lift Procedure Take?

A neck lift usually takes around 1-2 hours. The operation may take more time if we combine it with other surgeries.

What Are The Risks of Neck Lift?

  • Numbness that can last for several months
  • Tingling
  • Blood or fluid collection
  • Swelling and bruising
  • Tightness
  • Asymmetry
  • Under correction
  • Temporary nerve injury

What does a Neck/Temple Lift do?

This procedure is performed to lift and tighten the upper and lower neck area.

A Neck Lift is most commonly performed with an S-Facelift to provide total rejuvenation of face and neck. A Neck lift may also be combined with a chin lift.
