What will the neck lift procedure involve?
We perform a neck lift under general anaesthesia as a day case procedure. During the operation, your surgeon will correct the signs of ageing on the neck, which varies from patient to patient. A neck lift is highly customisable, and so we will adjust the technical approach depending on your needs.
Typically, this involves working with the platysma muscle, and removing excess skin, fat and tissue to smooth and refine the neck. We may also combine this procedure with submental liposuction (under the chin) and a facelift, for an enhanced facial rejuvenation outcome.
The surgeon will make a minimal and discreet incision behind the ear. They will remove excess fat and may tighten the platysma muscles with sutures which prevents the bands from returning. In rare cases the surgeon may decide to include a small incision under the chin, however Dr. Alexandrides’ will usually perform the operation without the need for such an incision. Following this, your surgeon will address and excise any excess skin and close the incision with sutures.
Who is the neck lift procedure suitable for?
A neck lift is suitable for anyone who is seeing signs of ageing or build-up of fatty tissue under the chin. We can address loose and sagging skin, platysma bands (the vertical bands that run down the neck and become more visible age), and excess fat around this area.
When Can Results of Neck Lift Be Seen?
The results will be immediately visible, but swelling will ensue shortly afterwards. You should have an indication of the final results once the swelling subsides.
How long is recovery of neck lift?
After surgery, we will require you to wear a compression garment for the first 24 hours. We may also insert drains to remove any excess fluid which we’ll also remove after 24 hours.
You may feel a little uncomfortable for the first 48 hours, and the surgeon may recommend pain killers to alleviate this. Numbness, tightness and changes in sensation are also a possibility.
We advise you to avoid exercise or any strenuous activities for the first week. You should expect swelling and bruising during this time. Your surgeon will remove the stitches at your post-op after around one week.
How Long Does The Neck Lift Procedure Take?
A neck lift usually takes around 1-2 hours. The operation may take more time if we combine it with other surgeries.
