How to Take Care of you Breast Implants During the Warm Weather?

Caring for breast implants in warm weather sounds like a fairly daunting challenge. But the truth is that weather isn’t going to have much of an impact on your implants once your recovery is complete. Your body is far too good at regulating its own temperature. However, during your recovery, you might want to keep an eye on the weather and make sure you have the right instructions for caring for breast implants in warm weather.

How Can You Care for Breast Implants in Warm Weather?

You can get plastic surgery year round, but caring for breast implants in warm weather might require some special instructions from your surgeon. Now, if you underwent a breast augmentation five years ago, you likely don’t need to give the temperature too much mind before going outside.

But if you got your breast augmentation two days ago, the equation may change a little bit. Now, this isn’t meant to be a substitute for medical advice. You should always talk to your surgeon about how to care for your implants during your recovery and beyond.

There are likely going to be some activities you’re going to want to avoid, generally speaking, during your recovery from a breast augmentation procedure. Some of those might be what we could call “warm weather” activities. Caring for breast implants in warm weather might take some special thought and consideration on your part. But it’s definitely something that your surgeon should walk you through, especially if you have concerns.

Keep an Eye on the Heat

Heat is not really going to affect your breast implant itself. That’s because your body does a very good job of regulating its own temperature. And if your body temperature spikes or drops enough to mess around with your implant, you’ve got other (big) problems (seriously, see a doctor immediately).

However, the heat can have an impact on your healing process. And that’s in part because your body is so good at regulating its own temperature. When you start to get hot, you start to sweat. Your skin goes through changes. Your body becomes stressed (even slightly). It’s worth that stress, under normal circumstances, to cool yourself down.

But this can have unwanted effects on your recovery. If you are exposed to too much heat, your sweating can cause excessive swelling. This can interfere with your body’s natural healing process and cause issues for your recovery. If you’ve just undergone a breast augmentation procedure, you should generally avoid activities such as:

Lounging by the pool

Sunbathing

Heavy exercise

Exposure to excess sunlight

Check with your surgeon to see when you can start engaging in these activities after your surgery–and only do so after you’ve gotten the okay.

Should You Get a Breast Augmentation in the Summer, Then?

This raises a good point. If heat is going to be a problem, why get a breast augmentation in the summer anyway?! Well, summer is the only time some people have open to undergo this procedure. Many people take summer vacations or find it easier to take time off of work during the summer months.

That means that a large number of people are going to undergo plastic surgery during these warm times. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s not as though undergoing a breast augmentation when it’s warm out is going to somehow jeopardize your results. No, the thing that can jeopardize your results is pretty consistent year round: not following your surgeon’s instructions.

Your Surgeon Will Give You “Warm Weather” Instructions

In most cases, your surgeon will give you warm weather instructions (if not, you can always ask about these instructions). That means you won’t have to worry about the timing of your plastic surgery procedure so much. Indeed, hopefully I can make it exceptionally clear that you can have plastic surgery, including a breast augmentation, at any point throughout the year.

In winter, you’ll have special instructions for cold weather. In summer, you’ll have special instructions–and most of those will involve staying out of the sun and the heat until your body has healed to a certain point.

That’s not unusual for any plastic surgery procedure. The weather–and even your own personal life–is going to necessitate certain recovery behaviours. Caring for breast implants in warm weather will likely be different than caring for them in cold weather. But that doesn’t mean that, somehow, warm weather is prohibitive.

It’s more important, in almost every case, to find a time for your surgery that works well for you–when you can take time off of work and when your preferred surgeon is available to perform your operation.
