If you find yourself constantly battling with unwanted excessive fat even when you keep to a healthy lifestyle, it can be frustrating and rather depressing. You’re not alone. That is why liposuction is so popular. It is a cosmetic procedure that removes invisible excess fat cells to help you lose unattractive, excess fat around different areas of the body to enhance your figure. Despite its popularity and the amount of attention it gets in the press, there are still a lot of misconceptions and misunderstandings about the procedure.
Many people ask “does liposuction permanently remove fat” for instance. Let’s discuss.
The short answer to the question of whether liposuction permanently removes fat is yes, technically it does. Regardless of the type of liposuction technique, the goal is always the same – the removal of existing fat cells in areas of the body where they are not wanted. If you keep to a healthy diet and healthy lifestyle, new fat cells will not grow in their place.
The cosmetic procedure involves a qualified and trained surgeon making very small incisions into the areas of the body where fat removal is needed, using a hallow, narrow tube, referred to as a cannula. This breaks up the fat cells and suctions the stubborn fat deposits.
There are several different liposuction techniques used these days, but all involve the removal of fat cells. Often, how they differ from one another is the way they break up fat cells and how easy they make it to remove the fat.
The primary reason you will be interested in liposuction is if you gain weight and are having trouble losing it. Although not strictly a weight loss treatment, there is some weight loss that naturally occurs when fat cells are removed.
The amount of weight you can expect to lose during the treatment will depend on how many areas of the body are targeted during a single session. Generally speaking, around 10 to 11-pounds of fat could be removed in one session.
Even as experts in this cosmetic procedure, the team here at Linia Skin Clinic can’t say with any real certainty how much fat will be removed during a liposuction session. You need to keep in mind, though, that how much fat removal can occur depends greatly on the size of the targeted areas of the body. If fat is being removed from big areas, anything between 25 and 30% of localised fat cells could be removed. Whereas, if it is a relatively small area that is being targeted during your liposuction session, 80% of all fa cells in that area could be removed.
All bodies, regardless of weight and composition, contain billions and billions of fat cells. Some of the fat you have stored in your body is there to help it function properly. For instance, fat helps with communication between the muscles in your body and your brain. Read more about how fat cells work.
To understand how liposuction works, you also need to understand that while it’s true new fat cells do not grow, the body doesn’t lose existing fat cells. If weight loss happens as a result of exercise and diet, there is adipose tissue that is stored in the cells that are burned to create fuel. Rather than disappearing, these fat cells with that stored energy shrink when they are depleted.
Though some stored fat can be healthy, if it is too much it can have adverse effects on your body shape, body image and self-confidence. Stubborn fat deposits are excess fat that offers those benefits to the body or your health. It doesn’t even matter if you have a good exercise routine and maintain a healthy diet, these tricky fatty deposits are difficult to shift.
While you cannot grow new fat cells to replace them, it is still crucial that you maintain a good routine and healthy lifestyle after your liposuction. You also need to see liposuction for what it is and what it is not – a weight loss issue.
There is some confusion regarding this subject. Fat cells have a finite lifespan, and each year your body creates brand-new fat cells that replace the old cells that have just died. Therefore, your body is always creating new cells of fat. However, the number of fat cells remains constant. One cell dies and then another replaces it.
When fat cells are removed, they do not grow back. Therefore, when you reduce your fat cell count by having liposuction, the body will never regenerate the cells.
If you are having liposuction to remove excess fat, you will likely want to know what you can personally do to sustain the positive results. The best tip we can offer is to maintain your weight.

Follow the post-procedure instructions outlined by your cosmetic surgeon
So if you have trouble removing fat with just diet and exercise, you may need to undergo liposuction. It is not a weight loss method, but the fat removed as part of the process will help the treated areas to look better and to lose weight. We have shown that rather than just being a temporary solution, in terms of fat removal, liposuction, whether its tumescent liposuction or another liposuction procedure, the surgical procedure performed regularly by plastic surgeons, removes fat cells.
Although you will need to put work in, exercise regularly, and keep yourself in good health, it can help improve body contouring and give you good skin elasticity.
