If you’ve ever wondered which season is the best time to get plastic surgery, we’ve got you covered. One of the biggest benefits of having a cosmetic, rather than medical procedure is that you can plan a convenient time frame for your treatment and recovery.
Thinking ahead not only means you can fit the plastic surgery around the rest of your life, but you can consider the best time of year for your treatment, as environmental factors can have a big impact on your recuperation.
The best time to get plastic surgery is generally in the Autumn or Winter months. This is because your risk to sun exposure is minimised and you can usually heal faster with fewer issues.
That’s the short answer to the question but patients can have great results in any season if the circumstances are right. The best time to have something done depends on many things. This is what we’ll cover in detail within this post.

Part of what determines when the best time to have plastic surgery is:
When you have particular procedures at certain times of the year, you give your body the chance it needs to fully recover safely and in the most comfortable fashion, while concealing scars and swelling, so you have the perfect alibi if you don’t want everyone to know you have had work done.
When you plan ahead, based on seasons, you have the prime opportunity to make specific slight and incidental changes, such as makeup or hair color, so that you can stop prying friends and acquaintances from figuring out your secrets.
Are you thinking about dieting and losing weight? It is a good idea to do this before you have plastic surgery, so that you can get the most beneficial results from any surgery or cosmetic procedure you have done.
Planning is also advantageous if you intend on having more than one kind of plastic or cosmetic surgery so you can work out the best order to have them in.
Universally, this is an ideal time to undergo just about any type of cosmetic surgery, from face lift to liposuction. Cooler weather allows bulkier clothing to conceal swelling and bruising.
Turtlenecks, scarves and hats – hide the effects of a facelift, eyelid tuck, laser resurfacing, brow-lift and rhinoplasty.
Bulky sweaters and trousers – camouflage the obvious change in your body from breast augmentations, breast reduction, lipo or tummy tucks.
Rest and recovery – are important and it is best to stay out of direct strong sunlight after any of these operations.
This is certainly an easier time to do so, even in warmer, southern climates.
It is a slow time for many businesses and long holiday weekends contribute further time off. It is the ultimate New Year’s resolution.
This is another busy and advantageous cosmetic surgery season.
People have a mindset to get “work” done this time of year so they can be ready for summer; the beach, bathing suits, less clothing, summer parties, weddings and vacation.
Many of the same advantages enjoyed in winter apply here. Some people prefer to enjoy the holidays and winter sports and want to have surgery in the spring.
It also gives you a chance to diet and exercise to lose the extra holiday weight.
Unfortunately, it is also the time of year when this is the kind of plan some may want to fall back on when their ambitious New Year’s weight loss resolutions fail.
The Summer is usually not a great time for invasive surgeries, in our experience, unless you prefer to use summer vacation time to recuperate.
It is a reasonable option, however, if you have the means of staying indoors, in the air-conditioned comfort to allow healing to progress from your procedure.
Thinking of recuperating at poolside, or in the backyard in the shade during the summer months?
Not a good idea, because the heat and sun exposure can exacerbate prolonged swelling or even bleeding post-op. It can cause damage to wounds that aren’t fully healed.
If you do decideto have surgery during the summer, listen to your surgeon and plan on staying indoors for 1-2 weeks (or longer).
Many body contouring procedures require abdominal binders or elastic girdles post-op to assist recovery, which are not very comfortable in the heat.
It is a bad time for laser resurfacing because treated areas must not see the sun for at least 6 weeks!
Also, immature or new scars should not be exposed to direct sunlight. An immature scar that is allowed to tan, may stay tan, and be more noticeable.
Not a recommended season for patients to have surgery.
By the time Autumn rolls around, this is still an ideal time to make the most of having plastic surgery done.
For many people, this is the time of year when planning and preparations are made for seasonal holiday time parties and colder weather outdoors fun.
If you are looking to avoid plastic surgery during the summertime, because you want to get the benefit of the warm weather while you can, many patients will find that many of the advantages of having plastic surgery done during spring are the same during fall.
When you have plastic surgery during fall, it gives you the opportunity to fully recover so that you can enjoy the seasonal festivities to the fullest.
It is also possible that after an active summer, you will be at your ideal weight, or close enough, to maximise success from body contouring surgery.
This is also an ideal time because as summer vacations are drawing to an end and the kids are heading back to school, you have more time to concentrate on having procedures and the all important recovery time.
Furthermore, fall is when we tend to start wearing more layers, to combat the increasingly cold climate.
Perfect if you have a tummy tuck or liposuction and are looking to put on lower body compression clothing for the first few weeks following surgery.
You will find that it is also the perfect time to make simple changes to your appearance with makeup and hair to help cover over scarring, swelling and the tell-tale results from cosmetic surgery procedures.
Overall, the best times to have a cosmetic procedure are during the Autumn and Winter months but your experienced surgeon will be able to advise you better for your specific situation.
