There are so many reasons why you may be thinking about getting a nose job. The cosmetic surgery procedure, also known as rhinoplasty surgery, covers a lot of different types of specific operations and changes that are designed to alter your nose. You might be thinking about getting a nose job to improve your breathing, as rhinoplasty surgery can help to adjust the flow of air through your nose. One example of this is surgery to correct a deviated septum. You may be considering rhinoplasty surgery to alter the appearance of your nose, and there are many different reasons for this which include boosting your confidence and self-esteem.
Indeed, one of the main reasons why people are hesitant about getting a nose job is because of a lack of understanding of how the procedure works and what to expect afterwards. There are a lot of people out there who are unhappy with the size of their nose, or how it sits in proportion to their other features, who are reluctant to commit to surgery because they are anxious about it. At LINIA, we know that you will have a lot of questions, so here are seven things that you need to know before getting a nose job.
1. Don’t Rush Anything
While you may have made the decision to get a nose job, what you may not have realised is that there are a lot of different choices that you will need to make along the way. From finding the right surgeon to pinpointing exactly what it is that you want from the surgery, you will need to give yourself plenty of time to make sure that you are happy with your decisions. A good surgery will help you through this process, which brings us to our next point.
2. Find The Right Surgery
Finding the right surgery is probably the biggest thing that goes into ensuring that you are happy with your nose job. There are a lot of different options out there, but the most important thing is that you feel comfortable entrusting the team to work on you. So, make sure that you read plenty of reviews. If you know people who have had a similar surgery, ask them if they have any recommendations. Don’t be afraid to ask for photos of previous operations and testimonials before you commit to anything and remember that any good surgery will offer you a free consultation. We have a gallery of before and after pictures to give you a good idea of how the procedure goes.
3. Ask Lots Of Questions
Once you have found the surgery that you think you are happy with, the next thing you need to do is ask as many questions as you want to. People will often get a bit nervous around doctors and go a bit quiet. But this is something that you need to be comfortable with, and any questions that you ask will also help your surgeon better understand what it is that you are looking for. You should start by asking if they think that surgery is indeed the right option. Our expert plastic surgeons will be able to talk you through the reasons why. They will also present you with some options, so be ready for a lot of back-and-forth discussion.
4. The Pain Is Not As Bad As You May Think
One of the main reasons why people are reluctant to get a nose job is that they are worried about the pain. However, as with any surgical procedure, you will be given an anaesthetic. There will be some discomfort after the surgery, but this can be managed with painkillers. If you have any anxiety about this issue, make sure that you talk to your surgeon about it. We offer a free consultation where we will talk you through the process, including anything that you may be worried about.
5. You Will Need Time Off Work
Generally speaking, the recovery period will be a week or two where you will need to be off of work after the rhinoplasty procedure. As with any kind of surgery, your body is going to need time go through the recovery process. A nose job is a complicated procedure, and you will likely have stitches and a nose splint when you go home. You will notice some bruising forming quickly afterwards, but this should go down within a couple of weeks. During this recovery time, we recommend that you try and sleep with your head in a raised position and that you get as much rest as possible. In addition to painkillers, you may also be given anti-sickness pills. At LINIA we place a lot of importance on patient care, and we offer fully inclusive aftercare with 24/7 support. This immediate period of discomfort is brief, and you will be back to normal life before you know it.
6. The Results May Take A While
While the swelling and the bruising will go down within a couple of weeks, it is important to remember that you will need to take care for a while longer. It can take up to a year for the full results of a nose job to settle in, so do not be panicked if you do not notice massive changes inside the first month of the operation having been done. One of the reasons for this is that the minor swelling takes longer to die down. Once it has, this is when the muscles and skin will start to adjust to the changes that have been made.
7. This Is A Procedure For You
One of the most important things that you need to know about getting a nose job is that this is something that you have decided to do for yourself. That means that if there is anything that you are even slightly uncomfortable with, you are well within your rights to ask those questions. It does not matter how small you think the question is, or how relevant it is, you should always feel like you can reach out and get in touch. At LINIA, we want to make sure that our patients feel looked after and comfortable. We know that it can be a difficult journey to get to the point where you feel OK about reaching out to a professional. If you feel ready, book now. We are ready to help you.
